IS/IT Project Management class A

What things make IS projects different with civil engineering (CE) projects? CE projects have to be well-planned. For them, plan is result. If a plan has been implemented, you can’t change it. If a building has built in an area, could it be moved?
IS projects trend’s nowadays is agile development. What is agile? It is an extreme way to build a system or software. Extreme could softly change to word “dynamic”. For example, when programmer has done a prototype, you can request change. But, changes make costs. The changes loop until the development makes improvement, close and closer to the objectives/requirement specification.
A project for Dr. Ir. I Putu Artama Wiguna, M.T., Ph.D. (CE lecturer from ITS), is a practice like Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) has explained. In the guest lecture that he bought, we can summarize that a project is:

  • Have a contract that say when to start and when to finish. If you don’t make time constraint, it will imply spent of cost and other resources.
  • Unique! One project and another project must have any different
  • Limited resources, like time, finance, people, and scope.
  • Clear scope, we can specify it to a task list.
  • Measurable and accountable result.

Wait, we have a contract, how if the contractor makes violates? The client should send them a warning memo. Send it for the third, the contract officially end. The client lose their money invested and the project for the customer have to be re-schedule, and the contractor got a 'point' of reputation. So, how to prevent it? Choose a right contractors, like requires any certification or client's testimonials.
